Loona is the book that won Shiv Kumar Batalvi the Sahitya Akademi Award.

In the tale of PuranBhaagat which has been told in Punjab for centuries, Puran has been depicted as the victim while Loona has been portrayed as the wrongdoer. However, Shiv Kumar Batalvi turned it into a story that questions the established perceptions and justifies the actions of Loona. While doing so, he highlights the evils of social customs, traditions, patriarchy, and prejudiced notions of our society which brings suffering to a woman’s life
